People from all over the world have come to call this place their home. That’s why I feel so lucky for this opportunity to serve my home and community right here.
We’ve got some of the best coastal views and natural taonga in Pōneke, matched by a community that really cares. Just look at the expanding predator free zone in the Eastern suburbs! There’s a long history in Rongotai of good public infrastructure that serves everyone, no matter their means or background. The first state home was built in Strathmore Park in 1937, and today, we’re some of the highest bus users in the country.
I’m here to keep fighting for what matters to us. There’s too many today who are struggling with high bills, who can’t pay their rent or find a home, and need more efficient and reliable bus services. And we need more action on climate change – both cutting emissions and taking steps today to ensure our communities are protected from its worst effects.
When I was elected as local MP last year, I was elected to serve everyone. No matter what you’re going through, my office is open and ready to help.
My focus is on our electorate’s key concerns around:
- Housing, particularly cost and security for renters, the effects of this Government’s cruel cuts on the most vulnerable.
- Transport, to make sure the people have access to efficient and reliable public transport, as well as safety improvements for walking and cycling.
- Local schools, and safe speeds for our communities.
- The Environment and protecting our natural taonga and moana. Supporting our awesome conservation groups and mara kai initiatives.
- Small business, street revitalization in our suburban hubs such as Newtown, Kilbirnie, Miramar and Island Bay.
